Family owned child care centre in Queanbeyan

About our centre
We are a privately owned early childhood education and care service. We are passionate and committed to delivering a service our families need at the highest standard.

We are operational 52 weeks of the year, closed on public holidays. We cater for children from six-weeks to six-years of age, across five rooms. Each room has dedicated outdoor areas for learning through play.

Meet our staff
Samara Phillips has been our director since June 2020. She started in the early education and care sector in 1996, and during her career, earned her Diploma in Children’s Services, now completing her Bachelor in Early Childhood.

“It is my mission to lead and support a team in delivering a child focused educational program that is inclusive and recognises diversity, in a caring and supportive environment.”

Our centre has seven Diploma Qualified Educators, with 3 Educators studying toward obtaining their Bachelor in Early Education. There are also several Certificate III qualified Educators, along with a number of determined educators aiming to obtain their Certificate III. Our ancillary staff include our administration officer, qualified cook, and our bus driver.

The ratio of educators to children is regulated by the Government and are different for different age groups. The table below shows the ratio for each age group, and the maximum number of children we have enrolled in each room.

  • Joey’s and Possums (0-2 years) – Max. 12 children per room – 1 educator per 4 children
  • Koala’s (2-3 years) – Max. 20 children per room – 1 educator per 5 children
  • Penguin’s and Emu’s (3-6 years) – Max. 20 children per room – 1 educator per 10 children.

Our rooms

We have five rooms that are broadly arranged by age, but we also focus on the developmental needs of each child.

Joeys (0-12 months)
This room provides our youngest children a program based on a sense of security and designed to cater for the different developmental needs of each child.

Possums (12-24 months)
Older nursery children broaden their skills in sharing, working independently, finding their own identity, and playing safely. Programs are developed around the individual which enables each child to develop at their own pace.

Koala’s (24-36 months)
Koala’s are discovering more about their bodies and how they work. They have more room to play, sing, and dance. Programs build on the interests of the children.

Penguins (3-4 years)
This room is where the children continue their growth and learning skills, slowly preparing them for their school years. They have listening time, learning time, and play time. They learn and grow so much in this room, make strong friendships and learn about their emotions and how to manage them. At the end of the year some children are ready for school, while others move on to the school readiness program offered in the Emu room 4-5 years.

Emu’s (4-5 years)
Our older children participate in a school readiness program designed to help prepare them for school, while still giving the younger children the opportunity to be exposed to the program and chance to join in. In this room all children participate in the Ella (Early Learning Languages Australia) program, where they learn the basics of another language. In the past children have learned Japanese, our current chosen language is French. As part of the school readiness program, children also have access to the Reading Eggs program.

Our menu
The centre runs a four week rotating menu, developed in line with Australia Dietary guidelines. We cater to any dietary requirements your child may have by altering the same meal the other children have, and we are nut-free and egg-free centre.

Alternative meals are also offered to children of differing cultural beliefs in regards to their meals. We offer milk (cow, lactose-free, or soy depending on individual diet) to the children at meal times and fresh water is offered throughout the day.

Frequently asked questions

Our daily fee includes:

    • morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea
    • nappies, wipes, bed linen, sunscreen, hats;
    • education programs, excursions, incursions, bus service (conditions apply).

The daily fee for all rooms is $134. Families eligible for Child Care Subsidy will only be charged the gap fee remaining after the subsidy is applied.

Yes, Create Imagine Learn Queanbeyan is a registered childcare provider. Families can apply for Child Care Subsidy (CCS) via the myGov app. If eligible, the subsidy can reduce the daily fee by up to 85%.

The amount of CCS your family can claim depends on several factors. For more information, visit the Services Australia site.

To be eligible you or your partner must meet the residency rules. Australian citizens and permanent residents will meet these rules. Some visa holders will also meet these rules.

You or your partner must also care for your child at least two nights per fortnight, and your child must also meet certain immunisation requirements. For more information, visit the Services Australia site.

Our fees are charged each fortnight for the two weeks in advance. At the beginning of your enrolment, we ask you to complete a direct debit form. You can change your direct debit details at any time.

Not all families need to go on our waitlist. Factors involved include the age of your child, the days you require care, and when you want care to start. We recommend you visit our centre before joining our waitlist; you can book a tour below.

This depends on the availability of places for your child’s age, and the days of the week you require care. It is difficult to estimate how long it may take for a suitable position to become available, but when a place does become available, we contact families in order of joining the waitlist.

Yes, you can. When you join the waitlist you can write the baby’s surname and write ‘baby’ or ‘tba’ with an estimated date of birth. Once the baby is born please contact the centre to update your details.

We recommend you visit our centre before you enrol or join the waitlist. This gives you an opportunity to see our facilities and meet our educators, and to discuss how we can meet your child’s needs. After the tour we will explain the enrolment process and help you get started.

We don’t have a bond, but we do ask for a payment of two weeks in advance, plus the first week’s fee.
